My Sewphisticated Chelsea Backpack (3.3.2007)

It's been a busy week - I finished the last details of the two Chelsea backpacks that will be given away as gifts, then decided I had to have one for myself to take to the Quiltfest on Friday.

I finally had to make a decision on color, theme, lining fabrics and how to "quilt" the cover; I decided my westie and Mets fabrics were too precious to use just yet, so I made my bag lining from one of my other favorites - my tie-dyed/batik fabric in blues, greens and teals. I just happened to have thread with the same colors, so I used that and the "stipple" quilt stitches on my sewing machine to quilt the cover of the bag.

I wanted to embroider the outer pocket with something "sewing" related and Rich reminded me about the Loralie designs I had purchased last fall -- the Sewphisticates 2 disk has several smaller designs that are perfectly pocket sized. I selected the design she calls Grandma's Machine. I finished my bag on Thursday evening, just in time for our trip to the Quiltfest on Friday.
