Giveaway Day - May 2013

This Giveaway is now closed - Thank You to everyone who entered!

Hurray for Sew, Mama, Sew!'s Giveaway Day! They organize this event twice a year and the fun lasts all week long!

If you're a new visitor here, welcome to my blog! This is where I post about whatever I'm working on, whether its sewing, machine embroidery or other crafting and home decor projects. I also feature some of the items available in my shops on ArtFire and Etsy.

This will be my third Giveaway Day and I've decided to give away this 3 piece set of quilted accessories:

I am slightly addicted to in-the-hoop machine embroidery! These are my sample stitch-outs of three designs from Five Star Fonts: a Quilted Sunglass Case (left side of the photo above), Quilted Checkbook Cover (top right), and Quilted Pocket Key Chain (bottom right). FSF sells each of these embroidery designs with a a choice of monograms and variations in the quilting pattern.

For these samples, I chose to use the blanks without the monogram with the diamond quilting pattern. Over the summer, I plan to make more of these sets to add to my shops. And for my Westie friends - yes, I do plan to make some with doggie and Westie designs. ;-)

I like to make up my samples using pretty fabrics, so if they turn out well I can give them away as gifts or use them myself. All three of these pieces turned out great the first time through, thanks to the excellent PDF instructions provided by FSF. The fabric I used throughout is a cotton quilting fabric, an allover leaf and vine design in golden tan on a black background. All of the stitching is done in black polyester machine embroidery thread.

When closed, the checkbook cover measures about 6.25 wide x 3.75 tall (inches):

Here's a peek inside - your check register slips into one pocket and the checks slip into the other, just like the conventional vinyl version you get from the bank. (The pockets in the photo below are running vertically.)

The sunglass case is generously sized at approximately 4 wide x 6.75 tall (inches). As you can see below, it could also be used as a sleeve for larger cell phones like my Samsung Galaxy 3.

The front is quilted and the back is only padded with cotton batting; there is no closure on this case (but a snap could be added and still leave room to spare for glasses or phones).

The pocket key chain is really nifty - it is large enough to hold gift cards, money, business cards or ID and it has a metal snap closure to keep everything securely inside. The front is quilted and the back is reinforced with stabilizer.
